Hi, Charl. Well, no, perhaps not quite genetic
engineering... but a little canny pre-planning, perhaps. Kangaroo paw from seed:
that's easy, no problem at all. Kangaroo paw and salt-laden wind: that's hard,
they do not like it. At least, both those things have been my own experience in
the not-v-medit climate of coastal NW England. Because of the aforesaid n-v-m
climate I can't speak about their tolerance of summer drought (drought? what's
that?) but I'd guess pretty substantial. Summary: well worth a go at
growing from seed if you can find a sheltered corner for the resulting plants
which is (more or less) beyond the reach of salt and wind, or at least protected
from the worst effects of same. BTW, I don't know how other list-members feel
about the flowers of Kangaroo paws but eventually I felt that, though pleasant
enough, they weren't really worth the hassle which, here, was involved in
getting the plants to thrive. Opinions?

Sun-Drenched Gardens. And the sun has actually come out in sympathy - but only
at temps. just above freezing...)
