Crinodendron & Melianthus

Thanks for the reply, Einion.

The reason I asked you and Tim about Melianthus was that my
impression is that it doesn't do very well here either. I put in
M major some two seasons ago. No, it doesn't get cut to the
ground in winter since the recent frosts here have been very
mild. But you can tell when a plant is thriving or not. Its
growth just seems to be poor and anaemic in the growing period
and there have been just a few flower spikes in spite of copious
feeding. I had assumed that it was not yet established but, maybe
from what you say, there's more to it than that. Is it the fact
that perhaps we don't have the heat required in summer in the UK
for adequate growth and flowering and should grow it simply as a
foliage plant by cutting it to the ground each spring to
invigorate it?

Can I take a rain check on the M. villosus seeds and come back to
you if major continues be a problem? Thanks for the offer.

Tristram
