A small point, but I believe you mean for the display to be in March 2005. It sounds like a good idea.

Hi folks -
I had an interesting discussion with a couple of our subscribers the other
day. I starting working on the creation of this forum back in '94, and it
took about a year to find a suitable forum form and an institution willing
to host it. Always remember the date I started working to make this whole
business happen, I thought (as did the two previously mentioned) that we
were about to celebrate our tenth year in existence! I dig around in my
archives and discovered that the actual first message on medit-plants was
in April of 1995.
Why is he telling us all this you ask - well, the idea being put forward
was to have some sort of celebration to commemorate 10 years of this
interesting exchange of information. Albeit regional, one idea was to
create an educational display at our local San Francisco Flower & Garden
Show in March of 1995. Perhaps, starting to work together now, information
could be brought together that could be shared with others interested in
their own regional celebrations. Such information might be:
- notable posts to the group over the years - very informational,
scientifically important, humorous, quaint, etc.
- for those willing to share personal details, short bios about
participants, where they live, pictures, whatever.
- garden profiles routinely discussed or felt to be relevant to this forum.
- a compilation of gardening tips that are particularly relevant to
mediterranean climates.
- recipes shared on the forum over time.
- other?
Starting so far in advance would make the gathering of such information
possible for anyone who stepped forward to participate (we're all very
busy, I know!). This information might be placed on the web for all us to
be able to access, and for future medit-plants subscribers to peruse.
I'd be interested in knowing what people's reaction is to such ideas. I
can certainly lend technical support as well as layout the information in a
graphically pleasing and professional looking manner, but I would require
assistance from many of you out there around the world (plus it would
reflect the international character of the forum to have such involvement).
Here in the Bay Area we're receiving several days of gentle but persistent
rain. The temperatures are not as cold as they've already been this season
and this type of moisture is certainly better than the downpours we often
get when it rains here! I am so excited to see all of my summer dormant
bulbs springing into growth!!
Regards,
