Dear Medit gardeners My garden will be open next Sunday for the ABC Australian Open Garden Scheme. I have some notes prepared and thought you might enjoy reading them - even if most of you won't be able to come on the day. trevor n My focus as a designer and gardener 1) to garden within the boundaries set by my environment - weather patterns, med climate range, soil type, seasons of natural growth and rest and micro-climates. 2) to explore the potential of floras from similar Med climate regions of the world. 3) to take account of our 3,000 yr history of gardening as Anglo-Europeans in Med climates. 4) to create a pleasant, sustainable and sympathetic landscape fo my family and friends. 5) to create a new aesthetic based on reconciling our cultural memories with the realities of being, and staying where we are. 6) to garden when plants are growing and flowering and seeding and to rest when plants are at rest. 7) to not be unduly influenced by technology and the manner in which it leads us into the twin traps of self- delusion and becoming fashion victims.
