Re: Erica canaliculata variety/subspecies?

Sounds as though it might be a garbled version of 'Boscaweniana' after the
Cornish name Boscawen -- both a surname and a place name.

Only problem is, there seems to no such plant name name as 'Boscaweniana',
nor 'Boscameniana', nor 'Boscomeniana', judging from Google search results.
But 'Boscawenii' turned up cultivar names in Hebe and Leptospermum.

Nothing either in the RHS Plant Finder
(http://www.rhs.org.uk/rhsplantfinder/plantfinder.asp), which has 600
entries under Erica.

In fact E. canaliculata (note spelling!) seems to be one of the few ericas
with no cultivars listed.

There is no reference to any specific or infraspecific Erica name starting
with bosc in IPNI (International Plant Names Index - see
http://www.us.ipni.org/index.html). But that does not mean there is no such
published name, since Index Kewensis (IPNI's major source) did not list
infraspecific names until quite recent decades.

The Boscawen family were associated with the famous Cornish gardens
Tregothnan and Ludgvan. See http://www.tregothnan.co.uk/visits_history.htm.
