Dear Susannah,
Why not hire day labor and pull it all out by
hand in a few hours? This is what I do at my garden in Crete each year (it
has a 12" top layer of gravel). My American buddies all suggest the
plastic and poison routines, but the "one day blitz" has worked for me at
the price of one man X 5 hours, so why not? You might need two men for the
size of your plot. Best to do it before it sets seed, of
course.
