Hi Linda,
You might want to consider one of my all time favorite plants--Digitalis obscura. It is a very different Digitalis with willowy leather leaves. The plants tolerate an incredible amount of heat and sun. Burgandy tinted stalks with rusty colored flowers. I love it. There is a picture on my website. It is not too hard to find, and easy from seed.
You might also consider (depending on where you are) some of the varieties of Eriogonum umbellatum that fade to a rusty chrome color. I am thinking of E. umbellatum 'Alturas Red' or 'Whiskey Peak'.
I am going to redo my front yard with heat loving plants since it faces west
and gets very hot in summer. I want to use some plants with orange leaves,
berries or flowers to pick up the color of my front door which is painted Red
Cayenne (which is sort of an orange/pink/red color combination).
