They're absolutely easy from seed, Barbara. Nothing particular required. Just sow and stand back! Indeed, here on the West coast of the UK they self-seed gently. Most of the cultivars come quite close to true from seed as well.
Incidentally, does anyone on the list know a low-growing sprawling yellow-flowered species named A. indicum? And, if so, how hardy do they think it is? It flourishes here in a pot but I'm sure would be much happier in the ground. It looks as though it would be ideal sprawling its greyish leaves and yellow flowers over the front of a low red sandstone wall, of which this garden has far too many. The question is, would it survive our winters? (Which tend to be wettish and with occasional short light frosts: say -3C as a maximum in most years.)
(This question, like so many - of mine, at least - is the result of pure idleness. It sets lots of seed and what I should !
really do
- have done - is of course grow a batch therefrom with which to experiment. 'Should, should, should': gardener's epitaph... Well, this one's...)
