A second guess here, after Jan's prompting of
Trevesia, which I don't think it is...  Try looking up
Cussonia spicata, as the lobed leaves do resemble
this.  I don't think it is Trevesia, which I grow in
my own garden, as the stem would be much fatter and
thorny, and the leaf stem clasps the trunk, and the
leaves are quite abit thicker and more glossy green. 
I still think this is most probably a manioc plant...
