I just planted out a Butia yatay from a 15-gallon pot this fall. They are
supposed to be larger than B. capitata and more consistently bluish as well
as having longer, more arching leaves.

year the leaves get a little longer. There are two in nearby Seaside which
are flowering, but the owners cut the inflorescences off each year before
they have a chance to fruit! I used to be rather unimpressed by this palm
until I had seen more mature specimens in Santa Barbara. WHat's nice is
sometimes you end up with a very green one, or a very blue one. Mine is
green, tending towards the gray side, but there is one in a planter next to
the restaurant "Home" in San Francisco (the Market and Church street
location), which is big, beautiful, and green.
