>Dear Bjarcia,
DIETES - I think there are about 5 species of this iris like plant.
Foliage always looks good- I grow a specie with bronze leaves,
and cream, 3 petalled flowers. There is another sp. that
grows through our bush - Tasmania - that has white and blue flowers.
I think they are native to SAfrica and Lord Howe Island.
Cultivation - very hardy, withstands drought conditions, average soil,
sunny position, though I have seen them growing in the bush in partial
shade. They self seed freely.
"vegeta" is an African iris, approx. 60cm withleaves that spread
like a fan, flowers are white with brown, yellow and lavender-blue
markings, about 6.5cm across. I would think that they should
flower 2nd or 3rd year from seed.
Hope this is a little bit of help. Personally, as the leaves
stay in good condition, I like them for giving height in certain
parts of the garden.
