Sue,
I really don't know Salvias, but I do have Jellito&Schacht. Here's the
entry for S.scabiosifolia:
"NE Bulgaria, S.Russia, Crimea. Stems woody, often reddish at the base,
30 cm high, procumbnt-ascending in a loose clump, well-branched, softly
white-hairy to woolly, as are the close-spaced leaves. Leaves pinnate,
with 3-8 pairs of linear leaflets, or deeply pinnate-lobed, lobes
linear-oblong. Inflorescence racemose with 4-6 flowered whorls, flowers
large, white, pink-blushed, upper lip pubescent, lower lip 4-lobed
sinuate. Attractive, bushy growing species for the large rock or natural
garden."
[The nice thing about J&S is that there's usually emphasis on diferential
characters. It's interesting how many horticultural sources tend to
repeat the same general info about each of a number of species in a
genus....]
