RE: Which manzanitas will grow at the coast?

heres the deal i heard about why Manzanitas are named the way they are
( other than the common names literal meaning.) I was told, that after
the spanish soldiers arrived here in california, they soon began to
long for the tings in spain. Seeing images of the moterland in native
plants they named them after things from home. The gruits of the
Manzanita do look like little wild apples, so they named it that. I
heard that they were also unsure of whether the Monterey Cypress was a
cedar or not ( so ive been told :) )

Manzana= Apple  ita= Little

THink Burrito ( little burro [ donkey ] )
