Re: Arbutus hardiness and soundscape

Hi everyone,

Tristan's observation re Arbutus unedo doing well against a wall rings true
in my experience. I planted one this time last year facing north in front
of a colorbond fence. It has to cope with Sydney summer temps up to 40C, as
well as the heat from the metal fence. It's absolutely thriving.

Thank you for so many great suggestions re noisy plants. Yes Charlotte,
sound is very evocative, and the whole exercise makes me want to set off for
Africa and South America to hear the Whistling Thorns, take a walk through a
forest of buckeyes, and sit on Rod's verandah on a hot still summer night,
drinking a glass of wine and listening to all those pods a-snapping and
a-cracking!
By the way David I can define a horticulturalist, it's a horticulturist who
has had three glasses of wine ;-)

best,
Mary
