Re: Political Correctness

I always find the little things about American English funny. We always
pronounce words with short letters , or we pronounce them wrong! I do
this as well. When i hear the word Mango i always laugh at the way its
said. It should be Man-go not Meng-o as it is usually heard pronounced.
Or Poinsettia. I used to pronounce it as poin-setta. Not to mention he
hundreds of ways words are said in the various regions of the U.S. From
the bostonian Caw ( Car) to the way southerners say ou ( like uh, as in
Suhthahnah ( Southerner). Then you Have us Californias whove had so
much contact with other cultures that we have a neutral accent and
pronounce things as we were told they were pronounced.
interesting note on this. My Uncles from Kansas thought the town of
Salinas ( Sa-Lee-Nas) Should be said like Sa-lai-nus, as in Salina
kansas.so, basically people will call plants by what is most
comfortable in their own language or dialect ( or in america, accent)
