I'm not sure this would really qualify for an onslaught. Actually,
I used to cringe every time I saw one of these unsub msgs sent to the
group (instead of the listserv) - guess I took it all too personally!
But I found via statistics that I keep on a semi-regular basis that
Medit-Plants, as do many groups, has subscribers coming and going each
month. Seems many people check us out and find we're not their thing
or move on for some reason or another. But the total number of people
on at any given time always remains between 350-400.
Another phenomenon I notice with people coming and going is that some
leave because they feel the volume of postings is too much to bear! I
think this comment usually comes from those unused to e-mail, or those
who only check their mail once a week or two (or less?). I have been
on horticultural e-mail forums where I received 150 messages A DAY!
And most of it vitually 'non-content' or mainly private chatting.
This was one of the reasons I wan't to create Medit-Plants, so that
each msgs received would be more focused on my interests and potentially
richer in content. In general, this has been a success, don't you think?
Meanwhile - I'll try and find something 'controversial' to raise in our
discussions! ;-)
