Monterey Pine

After having spent three weeks recently looking at old rose gardens in New Zealand, I could not but help worry about all those Monterey pines I saw in my travels on both islands. The recent email (thanks!) relating the areas of the world where they are growing did not tell you (nor should it have) that these trees are dying fast in Santa Cruz (California) County. Miles of them along Highway 1 are gone and those left are slowly turning brown. I have a row at the edge of my garden - every day I look at them and wonder when I shall have to cut them down. It is nothing else than a disaster. And Monterey county next door? What are the prospects there?   Bill Grant
