Hi, friends
I was off for 5 days, and when I came back I found this incredibly funny
string, oh Lord how I laughed!
Thank you for having made my Monday morning so happy. I really hope Nick
will write his article, and post it to the group.
The string also reminded me of the article I've always been thinking of:
"How to make a really dreadful garden" . As you can imagine, my article
would include suggestions such as: plant a Canary palm very close to last
year's Christmas tree, a birch, a Magnolia grandiflora and a lollipop
clipped, yellow variegated japanese privet; underplant with pampa grass
interspersed with bright pink azaleas and standard HT roses; add a dozen
blue or yellow leaved dwarf conifers, and of course edge it with a line of
Salvia splendens, tagetes, begonias. This is my proposal for the garden of
the housekeeper, in your nightmare island.
BTW, did I ever tell the group about the Xmas trees grove that I found here
when I was hired? They were about 20, aged from 20 to 1 year, each one
exactly 1 year younger than the previous one. They had all been planted in
the garden of the American Academy's great late baroque Villa Aurelia(1680
ca.), and they were the typical punch-in-the-stomach kind of background for
the villa's elegant architecture, and the clipped hedges, topiaries,
balaustrades and fountains. I think they must have been the first plants I
removed. Among the others -guess it- there were Pampa grass, phyllostachis,
creeping junipers, a giant eucalyptus, 500 seedlings of Ailanthus and
Robinias, ivy, ivy, ivy, and many others for which you can refer to the
island's list!
Ciao, Alessandra
