Windy Mediterranean Garden

Dear Medit Plants list;
 
I only recently joined the list, and find it very informative.  I live in the meditteranean region (the Gush Etzion region of Israel).  My garden happens to be situated in a very windy area, which for much of the year is cold.   The majority of the garden receives a good amount of sunlight.
1. Any suggestions as to what I should plant in this windy environment?
2. There is one section of the garden which lacks sun, and suggestions what I should plant there?
