Well I am totally bewildered. Toni and I seem to be talking about two
different lists!.
In fact though the University hosts the list it does not moderate it.

In my recollection if anybody has brought up the idea of using a
serious "cide, the rest have always suggested more eco-friendly
alternatives. I for one scarcely ever spray with anything more lethal
than compost tea, cooking oil and/ or baking soda. VERY occasionally I
might use copper and (for codling moth only) neem oil.

I value the organic list especially for the great insights it has given
me into what is happening beneath the surface of my soil and the ways in
which I can aid and improve its marvellous organization. One of the big
lessons it has taugh me is the reason why tilling the ground is purely
disastrous and how following the natural way of feeding and building the
organic matter by surface mulches gives such good results.

I agree with the suggestion that vegetables and their growing are a
perfectly legitimate part of the Med list, but I do feel many keen
gardeners would also welcome the possibility of learning an
environmentally-friendly way to manage their soil and indeed the entire
ecosystem of their garden.
