Hi Folks -- this message is going out to the Calif. Medit Plant folks on
the list and I hope others will excuse the posting.
I have a friend who is being terminated from his job and needs a new one,
preferably working with California Natives. This is a special individual
who started out as a naturalist many years ago and as part of his job, was
asked to "landscape" his facility with the native plants that grow in the
coastal sage scrub of the surrounding hillsides. The landscaping went so
well, that he was asked to start a nursery, selling native plants to
support his on-site nature center. The nusery started several years ago
and he has done wonderfully -- not only raising natives and managing the
nusery, but doing it as part of a drug and alcohol recovery program and
training the rehab participants in propagation, horticulture, etc.
Just recently, the facility where he works was sold and the new owner has
decided to terminate the nature center, the nursery, and my friend. He
would like to start another native plant nursery in the San Diego area that
would not only raise local native plants, but continue the education
mission, offer classes, etc. Financial backing for that endeavor seemed to
be forthcoming but has suddenly disappeared.
Bottom line is, my friend needs either a backer to finance him in an
operation in the San Deigo area or he needs a job as a naturalist,
educator, or preferable, in a nursery. Can any of you help him and his
family?
