redwood needles for mulch

Now that I'm trying to gather as much neighborhood stuff as I can for
mulch, I'm wondering about my neighbor's redwood tree droppings (needles?).
This tree blocks so much of our sunlight that I'd be delighted to be able
to use it for what little sunny garden I have left.

Would the droppings be ok to use as mulch or in the compost? I worry about
it being too acidic.
