As spring approaches, my new shredder is coming into its own.
I have huge quantities of Pittosporum tobira to shred, some cut up to six months ago and some now.
Would there be any phytotoxic drawbacks to using either the new or the old stuff as a brownish or
green mulch straight away? - presumably there would be phytoxicity from plants such as Nerium
oleander, but I imagine none from Pittosporum.
The reason I ask is that in a recent RHS magazine, there was an aside about phytotoxicity in green
mulches but it didn't go into any detail, simply recommending putting all shredding on the compost for
at least four months.
