Hi Barbara,

Many people who share information on rec.gardens.roses use the alfalfa 
pellets.  They are much cheaper and do much the same job.  If you dig it in, 
it should be just fine.  I often put it on top of the ground, and have to 
break it up when it crusts. 

In a previous e-mail, you mentioned wanting more blooms.  Osmocote, the 
formula with minors, is used at San Jose Heritage Rose Garden.  If they use 
anything else, you can find out on rec.gardens.roses.
