At the horticultural college where I work we have to make use of cracked
and seconds pots to be economical. There are two problems to overcome (1) to
seal the leaks, and (2) to strengthen the pot wall so it won't collapse under
pressure of soil and plant and water. We use a silicone roof sealant to inject a
stream of thick, rubbery silicone along the line of the crack on the inside of
the pot. Next we use a knife or spatula to spread and smooth the 'glue' over the
crack but still leaving a depth of sealant so it hasn't been smoothed absolutely
flat. We find it works quite well and seems strong enough even for large pots
big enough to put citus trees in.

My suggestion for sealing the pots is one that I've used for years for cracked pots. I just take plastic trash bags that best fit the pot and fill with dirt. Remember to poke holes for the water to run out and proceed as in potting in general. Fran Oklahoma City, OK, USA Zone 7 |
