Re:Anredera

To all in the group,

I just thought I would warn you about this vine, as it
is very difficult to get rid of once you have it, any
little piece of the root left in the ground seems to
start again. It is perfectly adapted to Berkeley
anyway, as it looks lush and green all summer with
absolutely no irrigation. I had one of these along
the side of my house 10 years ago when I moved in,
wasn't impressed by it, dug it up, eventually laid
weed fabric and gravel over the area as it is just a 5
foot narrow side yard along the house, and it is still
coming up regularly every spring. How it continues to
be able to do this when there is no growth remaining
to photosynthesize,(I do not let it get started again
and immediately remove any growth), I just don't know.
I must say it is impressive in its will to live, just
like Bindweed, that little white flowering wild
morning glory, or Oxalis pes capri, which also are
still with me after 10 years of battling with them. I
suspect if the garden were untouched for another 10
years, these three plants would again be the dominant
plants in the garden, along with a newer introduced
weedy grass which I think is from South Africa(not
sure though, and don't remember the name), but is
light green in foliage color, grows to about 2 to 3
feet tall, sets abundant seed, and is now seen
everywhere in Berkeley. I wouldn't wish this one on
an enemy, the battle is never ending...
