Carolyn, I think that it depends on how decomposed the granite is. 
If it has lots of chunks, then it might work like a gravel mulch.  If 
it is more dirt-like, then it will be like adding dirt to your bed. 
Either way, It can keep down the weeds by preventing the seeds that 
are already there from sprouting.  It won't stop new wee seeds from 
settling on the DG and sprouting.

If I were you, I would use it to build up a new planting bed rather 
than using it as a mulch.  Or, put another layer on your paths... It 
will settle after a while anyway.
