Pseudobombax ellipticum - Shaving brush tree

All,

Last week a generous planting-loving friend gave me a  Pseudobombax 
ellipticum that he thought would be perfect in the meadow of my 
garden.   I  promptly planted it, thinking that the tree would have a palm 
form.  Today I looked on Google and found a large tree with a canopy that 
would shade the meadow.  Before I put the Pseudobombax back in the pot, I'd 
like to know more about the tree.  Has anyone planted it in their garden?
