I sent the first query off too quickly. I can add
that the plant from Desert to Jungle was collected in
Huatusco, Mexico, and tentativley identified by Gary
Hammer as Amaranthus spp. Perhaps the reason it
doesn't self sow in the garden is that the plants are
dioecious?
