MY Dahlia imperialis is STILL blooming. Every week
shows a steady crop of its lovely lavender flowers. I
really like them a lot, even if they are so short
lived. Mine seems to have set seed, but i'm not sure
if it's viable (is it normally small and flat... like
marigold seed?). I have one seed head that has loose
bracts so it must be ready, if it's got viable seed.
My plant reached nearly 6 feet high last season. It's
sending out shoots along the main stems and also
flowers as well. I trimmed off the older leaves
because they were weather worn, but it's sending out
new ones.
I'm most intrigued by its woody tubers, which seem to
help to anchor the plant. I wonder if it will reach
nearly 20 feet by the end of the season next year.
