Both olives and bay grow in certain areas of Victoria - generally in gardens near the sea. My brother's olive bears fruit, and my father's bay tree is about 4m tall. It was killed back one horrendous winter (89/90, I think) when even native trees were badly damaged, but resprouted with vigour and has not been damaged since. A farm stand near me sells branches of bay - much prettier than a bag of dried leaves, though one could never use all the leaves before they dried.
