Carol,
Thanks for this interesting information, I have myself thought about
defoliation/dormancy and the effects of hibernating. A plum tree actually
had a few green leaves left on the stem now in February, before this last
spell of cold weather, as did a few new shoots on the apples. Next year I
will be sure to defoliate them if they are still green at Christmas!
The idea of the "chill clock" is truly fascinating. At present it is running
fast forward as freezing conditions continue here in Greece. The forecast is
for -6C tonight.... wonder will be left in the morning... all the aloe
flower stems are drooping and look as if they are beyond recovery...
We wonder if this may be an unexpected effect of global warming..? Are we
getting more of a continental climate? Golf stream lessening? One can't help
speculating...
