Following up on my rain report, this was in this morning's local paper. It might explain why I thought rain was worth noting in an email!
San Diego was at a meager 1.64 inches entering today. IF we had made it past tomorrow without any rain, it would not have been a record for the driest first eight months of the rain year, which begins July 1. The driest year on record in San Diego through the end of February was 1876-77, when the city had only 1.62 inches. The season total that year (through June 30) was 3.75 inches.
In 2001-02, the driest year since record-keeping began in 1850, San Diego had 1.90 inches at the end of February. That year ended with 3.02 inches.
Last year at this point, San Diego had 19.64 inches, or 269 percent of normal. Before today's rains, we're at 22 percent of normal.
