Hello --
I've been trying to figure out what to do in a couple of
hanging-containers situations, and it occurs to me that maybe I can
avoid re-inventing the wheel if other folks here have solved similar
problems :).
1) Anyone have a non-ugly bottom dish for indoor hanging plants? The
ones that clip onto standard plastic hanging pots are much too small
-- they won't even catch drips, let alone act as a reservoir. I
tried using plastic or metal bowls under the pots (attatching the
various hangers to the bowls instead of to the pots) but they were
not really sturdy enough to withstand the pressure of the
hangers. Have any of you tried using the hanging metal baskets that
are customarily used OUTdoors with coir (?) liners, but using them
just as a hanging implement, without coir but with bowl and pot inside them?
2) My other problem is one of outdoor plants that have become huge,
but that I still want to hang (either to keep away from snails, or
for pretty trailing habit). The ones I'm thinking of here are in 4-5
gallon pots. I've seen the metal-basket-coir-liner setups this large
in municipal settings, but a) dunno where to buy them, b) they look
awfully expensive, and c) they seem like they'd dry out too fast,
though I suppose one could put plastic sheeting between the coir and
the soil. Any suggestions, or alternative ideas?
Well I guess you all can see that I've got the gardeners' winter
malady: fantasizing about and planning for summer improvements!
Thanks much for any advice,
Susannah
