Melianthus major cuttings?

I have a Melianthus major 'Purple Haze' that's starting to sprawl out beyond
the border and into the lawn, so I want to cut it back before the lawn mower
does it for me. I'd love to try taking cuttings of it. Has anyone tried
propagating melianthus from cuttings? I have access to a greenhouse with a
mist system and bottom heat.

As an alternative to Dodonea, I wonder if Pittosporum tenuifolium 'Silver
Sheen' or Lophomyrtus 'Sundae' would work? Both are relatively narrow,
upright growers with interesting foliage.
