Fasciated Echium

I thought you all might find this interesting since stem fasciation is not particularly common, except in certain cultivated plants. I was out in the front garden admiring my Echium candicans and seeing how the flowering stems were developing when I noticed two branches of the same plant were fasciated. Here are the shots:

I'm not entirely sure how these came to be fasciated (as it apparently has numerous possible causes) but I did notice that there was a dead branch end on one of the branches.
