Just for information - there is currently research going on at the U.W. to
determine non-invasive varieties of Hedera so that it can still be
available as a useful ornamental and not invade the forests. Here
(Pacific Northwest) it takes over large areas of forest and essentially
prevents anything else from getting established.
A side note: There is a parasite, Orobranche hederae, that attacks Hedera
though unfortunately it doesn't actually harm or even limit the plant. It
is supposed to have very pleasant orchid-like purple flowers. Has anyone
grown it?
