Fellow Medit-Plants-persons -
Some of you are aware that I am working on some Web pages that
relate to our Mediterranean Climate Gardening focus. Some have
already sent me some information for possible inclusion - if you
have, could you please remind me as I've been having some e-mail
challenges of late and may have lost track of some items, but if you
remind me that you sent me some information, it'll make it easier
for me to track it down among the mountains of e-mail I've had to
wade through.
This note is also another request for information that can be
included on the pages I am developing. Here are some catagories of
information:
- climate profile (some of these have been sent, I'd love more!);
please state your location and as much detail about rainfall, temps,
winds, soils, etc. as you can
- public gardens - If you know of a public garden in your area (or
even in another Mediterranean climate area) that would be
appropriate to list on these Web pages, send me some information.
If you can contact one or more of these places directly and have
them send me their brochure or detailed information, so much the
better!
- societies & groups - Local institutions (large or small) which are
focused on Mediterranean climate gardening, or at least promote or
practice somewhat climate appropriate techniques and plant
selection.
- plant information - Perhaps you have a favorite plant or genera
that you'd like to write about or otherwise provide information for,
hopefully including some photos of good plantings or specimens.
This might include information about its natural range and habitat.
It also might include compilations of Medit-Plants or other internet
discussion posts.
- Nurseries or other resource institutions - Do you frequent a local
nursery who supplies you with lots of interesting and worthwhile
plants for your climate & garden? Is there some other type of
horticultural resource that you find particularly useful?
- publications - Do you have a book or periodical that you use as
your resource for reliable information about gardening in your
climate? Do you wish to review a work or know of a good review?
Are you aware of government or non-profit booklets on pertinent
topics for Mediterranean gardeners? Does you local native plant
group publish information for gardeners?
* * *
At this point, there is so much yet to add to the site I could go on
and on, but the above might get us started. This is meant to be a
site for all of us to put up useful information - I will duely
credit all written work (other than basic information) and photos.
If you have questions about this project, please feel free to ask.
When the site is more 'fleshed out', I will allow Medit-Plants
members to review the content and provide me with feedback
(hopefully in the next month or so, based upon what type of response
you provide me).
The Mediterranean Garden Society has been working with me over the
past few months, and there is already significant information about
that group on these pages. Now I'd like to turn my attention to the
rest of the site as well, so let me know what you know!! This is
your chance to participate in even a small way with this exciting
project!
