Dear Joan
I think my letter must have given you a rather exalted idea of my
pelargonium growing, as I should class myself as a rank amateur where
these plants are concerned and they are only a small part of my
interest, mainly beecause they are such excellent long-flowering
subjects for decorationg a hobby glasshouse. I certainly do not take
them seriously enough to belong to a Growers Society.
Most of my choicest varieties were chance acquisitions from either old
friends, or gardens where I once worked as a mainatenance gardener. (I
am now retired from this). As a consequence many are unnnamed, though I
have occasionally augmented my collection with ones I have bought. I got
a couple some years ago from St Martin's geranium nursery in
Christchurch in the South Island, but have never tried to buy any from
across the Tasman. Probably there would be some hassels with quarantine
regulations anyway.
Thank you for answering my query about rhe stems. You are very likely
right that they are getting a tad too much N. I have recently acquired a
sample of mixed rock minerals from Oz and will include some of this in
my next batch of potting mix to augment the P and K.
Best wishes
Moira
