This plant grows very well in Adelaide, South
Australia. It is common in suburban gardens,
and is used often as a screen plant as it grows
fairly quickly. It's not fussy about situation,
and tolerates our very hot dry summers. It
apparently prefers an alkaline soil, which
is what we have on the Adelaide plains. It rarely
exceeds 3 metres here - I don't know if it performs
differently elsewhere. The grey-green foliage is
attractive, as are the red flowers. The fruit has
a curiously strong smell, which is reminiscent of
air freshener. It makes a beautiful jelly. I have
two trees which unfortunately are irresistible to
possums, and as a result have very little fruit.
