Lavandula viridis is a native of S. W. Spain and S. Portugal, which
should give you some idea of its hardiness (in the UK that usually
means its ability to tolerate frost). Here it is not considered to be
reliably hardy.
I've been growing it at the foot of a south facing wall for the past
two years where it has reached a height of c. 0.6m. So far it has
escaped with very little winter damage, although the last two winters
have been particularly mild.
It is usually in flower in July, the individual flowers being of a
greeny-white hue. The inflorescences are similar to those of French
lavender (L. stoechas) being topped off with a tuft of sterile bracts
(the coma), in this case they are pale green as opposed to the more
usual blue/purple shades.
To my untutored nose, the foliage gives off a more camphorous aroma
than that of common lavender (L. angustifolia), with a distinct hint
of honey.
I have no experience with growing this species from seed. However, my
experience with other, closely related species, suggests that it
should not be too difficult. Seed sown in pots of any propriety seed
mix, lightly covered, and given a temp. of c. 20 deg. C., should
germinate in two to three weeks. It roots extremely easily from
cuttings.
I hope you find this helpful,
Graham
