Many thanks to everyone for the fascinating and helpful info.
It sounds as though they're going to have to be under glass for me, if
I'm to get them to flower. (Though I've got enough plants to volunteer
a few for the kamikaze mission outside.) S. African winter-flowerers
are hardly a feasible proposition in this climate, though many
Australian and NZ ones do surprisingly well.
I'd noticed in my own plants the falling-over tendency which Sean
mentioned. So it's natural and not a(nother) reason to panic? And when
it happens, I just cut'em back? Um. I wonder how they'll respond to
THAT, as they struggle to survive in this alien situation. Well, if
they're supposed to want to take over the world, it should at least
serve to keep'em in their place. Or under it.
No one grows my C. bicolor? Silverhill offer seeds. It seems to be
about as hardy as the others. Flowers sound as though they should be
rather charming.
