I know this getting far off topic, but -
Were you using the english (funny) equivalent of the french voila (as
in, there it is, there you have it) 
which we americans (and english too) use a lot?  Is this a word in
spanish also (guala)? (not a spanish 
speaker here).  And yes, Ocotillo are slow growing, and I find they
don't do well with all the winter
rain we get in the SF Bay area.
