Here in the San Francisco bay area, we have had a very mild winter;
temps ranging from 6 at night to 18 during the days, mostly. No frosts
this year, so things are still very green. But no rain, so we still
have to water (our non-mediterranean plants in our mediterranean
climate). Not blooming - a few Salvias (gesneriflora and elegans), and
Senecios (populifolisus continuing, almost constantly in bloom, and
petasitis now coming into full bloom (now apparently renamed Rolanda)).
A tree dahlia which had a late start, and impatiens, which seems to
bloom continually, until hit by frost. Nerine masonarum is still going
strong. A few blooms on a Fuchsia fanfare. Hidden in other shrubs, but
calling attention to itself by its strong fragrance, is a Sarcoccoa
rusticifolia. Except for the Salvias, nothing is mediterranean. The
Senecios come from Mexico, but in the cloud forest. The trick is to
keep them alive in the summer without too much water.
