wasps

wasps in spain are great predators of caterpillars, both the common european
wasp, largish and yellow and black, as well as the ichneumon species.

from where I sit to read in the summer, I can see them going to the
vegetable garden where there is a flat dish of water for them as well as
flowering fennel, and after having a drink they go and hover arround and
under the leaves of the vegetables searching for caterpillars.
the common european wasp eats them in situ but the ichneumon species fly
away with then, reminding me of the fire fighting helicopters carrying water
tanks to drop them on the burning woods.
