Karen -

Perhaps a good way for you to deal with this is to remain subscribed but
turn off the mail from the group. When you wish to view messages, you can
go to the Mallorn archive of the group to see them
(http://www.mallorn.com/lists/medit-plants/) and when you wanted to
participate, being subscribed, you could still send a message to the
group. Here is what you would do to create this situation. DO NOT
unsubscribe, but instead send the following message to listproc@ucdavis.edu :

set mail medit-plants postpone

This is what people do when they are going to be away from their mail - you
are still in the subscriber's list, but you won't get any e-mail from the
group. But, as I said, if you ever wish to send a message to the group,
you still can.

Please let me know if this is not clear, or if you have problems.
Regards,
Sean O.
