Thanks to Moira and Mark for the information; much appreciated. Yet another plant that's not such a tempremental diva as some of the books suggest, and I take on board the point you both make about protecting it when young. Now all I have to do is track down a supplier: I've found another nursery in Cornwall that sells it for just £6.50, which is almost a third of the other nursery's price (why so expensive if it's that easy from cuttings and seeds - greed?). Typically, this particular nursery doesn't offer mail order. Somewhere there's a combination of reasonable price and mail order facility - I'll get there eventually!
