I guess the crux of this whole debate is that it brings home how vulnerable
and fragile our native habitats truly are. Concerns of some of the tree &
disease issues in California and beyond remind me of the my childhood in the
1970's, when the English Elm was removed as a feature of our countryside in
a short number of years, irrevocably changing the landscape in the process
in the eyes of many, but for the proceeding generation an unknown change in
the environment. Although I believe that their is some debate through
analysis of pollen records that this species may have fallen to a similar
fate in the past. I know it's small example of how disease can affect the
ecology of the landscape, by the scale of the threat to places like the
Australian Outback, but a reminder of how crucial it is to cherish that we
have. I know its been a bit 'off topic' from medit plants but a thought
provoking discussion all the same.
many thanks, Mark.
