As I read this, I immediately thought of my own (despised) Morus alba
which is growing adjacent ot the lawn and wondered why I don't have
any root problems whereas one of my neighbors has roots from her tree
everywhere. I wonder whether the fact that mine is planted above a
septic tank leach field has anything to do with it? The roots get
all the water they need without having to go searching for it....

PS One reason I think Schinus molle is such a popular tree in So Cal
(as compared to oaks which I adore) is that it is such a fast grower.
Seedling to nearly full size takes only about 5 years or so while an
oak can take four or five times that long.
