Processionary caterpillers

We live in Casal Palocco, a residential area of
Rome very near the sea. Pines (Pinus pinea) are in most gardens
and line the streets and we have this terrible problem every year. A
neighbor's dog too bit one and was saved only because the vet quickly
operated. He too is with half a tongue etc.
As so far nothing seems to get rid of them the best
advice is to be very very very careful where you step. Watch the ground
like a hawk. Mother Nature is so wonderful but her inventions are
sometimes a real pain...
